Learning about law firm economics can be one of the quickest and most effective ways to advance your career. At their core, all law firms sell professional services for money, but firms use vastly different approaches to their business choices around profits, costs, and strategy. Understanding how those elements interact with each other and affect the firm overall can help you understand your role better, contribute to your organization’s goals, and advance your career. In interactive sessions over two days, the PDC Winter Certificate Program 2025 offers the opportunity to deepen your understanding of law firm economics and how they align with your professional goals, whether you are in a law firm, law school, in-house, or a vendor professional.
Day one will cover the four levers of law firm profitability, unusual features of law firm finances, and different compensation models used by different firms. Participants will explore smoothing mechanisms for uneven revenue, capital calls, and ways to interpret and understand comparative statistics across firms like overall revenue and profits per partner.
On day two, you’ll gain valuable insights into the intersection of firm economics and firm culture, economic risk factors for law firms, and ROI for PD professionals to empower you to make informed strategic decisions in your role.
All certificate program attendees will also be invited to a follow-up roundtable to be scheduled several weeks after the certificate program on the topic of teaching law firm economics to associates.
