In case you have not heard, the Professional Development Institute (PDI) is right around the corner, taking place December 2-3 in Washington DC! The PDI is sponsored by NALP in collaboration with American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education and the Professional Development Consortium.
Who should attend?
PD professionals of all experience levels will come away with new ideas and inspiration. Not only will you get the chance to hear from experienced professionals about current trends in lawyer professional development and to learn about different programs, trainings, and initiatives at firms of all sizes around the country, but you will also have time to network and gather resources that you can take back to your firm right away.
For new(er) PD professionals, there is a PD Management Foundations course on December 1 from 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. ET before the conference officially begins on December 2. Taught by the incredible Molly Peckman and Andrew Hales, you will experience a hands-on workshop and leave understanding what it means to be a PD professional, responsibilities and roles generally associated with the profession, and helpful resource lists.

What’s new this year?
There are 26 sessions and nearly 60 speakers at this year’s PDI, in addition to the informal breakfasts and lunches, a networking reception Thursday afternoon, and a NALP Lawyer PD Section gathering. The Friday plenary will be about building and rebuilding ties among our PD Community. The planning committee intentionally brought in new voices to the conference – and invited 10 first-time PDI speakers - so be ready to hear from speakers to whom you have not yet been introduced!
What are the COVID-19 protocols?
All PDI attendees and NALP employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must provide proof of vaccination. Attendees will also be required to comply with relevant safety policies such as social distancing, hand-sanitizing, and mask requirements.
