Chapman and Cutler LLP is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Diversity Assistant to join the Talent Development Department in the Chicago office. The Diversity Assistant will oversee internal and external Diversity and Inclusion programming and events and communications for the Talent Development department. This position requires an in-office presence but allows some flexibility for remote work. The day-to-day responsibilities of the Diversity & Communications Assistant will include:

Diversity and Inclusion Responsibilities

• Plans quarterly Business Resource Group meetings, including coordinating with members to invite speakers, plan community outreach events, and discuss areas of professional development
• Oversees and executes the Illinois Public Finance Roadshow, including coordinating with law schools and preparing the attorneys for the presentation
• Coordinates the Chapman and Cutler LLP Maynard H. Jackson, Jr. Scholarship, including publicizing the scholarship, answers candidates’ questions and planning the scholarship reception
• Attends webinars and other educational events in the DEI space from time to time
• Plans and executes periodic heritage events (e.g., International Women’s Day, Black History Month, Pride Month)
• Assists with creating and monitoring diversity budget
• Maintains diversity site on intranet, including managing list of diversity awards received, assisting with client requests for proposals related to diversity, announcing upcoming diversity programs, and publicizing our diversity initiatives
• Coordinates supplier diversity program by collaborating with accounting to identify new vendors, working with the vendors to obtain diversity certification, if available to them, and encouraging administrative departments to utilize the diverse vendors
• Plans and coordinates periodic diversity trainings for attorneys and staff
• Manages and organizes Firm diversity sponsorships and coordinates lawyer attendance, logo, and sponsorship materials for related events
• Completes initial drafts of all diversity surveys
• Coordinates with Firm leadership regarding attendance at the annual Hastings Leadership Academy
• Assists with additional duties as assigned by the Chief Talent Officer and the Director of Talent Development and Diversity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or an Associate’s degree plus additional event planning, communications, diversity, professional development or recruiting experience. The ideal candidate will have at least one (1) year of prior experience in a professional environment; preference given to those with prior law firm experience.

• Exceptional writing, editing and graphic design skills
• Strong analytical skills, ability to draw conclusions from data, assess implications and make recommendations
• Work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and be an excellent problem-solver and team player
• Committed to client service; professional demeanor and discretion required
• Excellent organization skills; ability to successfully prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure
• Enthusiasm for working in a team setting
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with Sharepoint, Smartsheet, and Canva a plus
• Mac OS experience a plus
• Available to work outside of normal schedule hours as needed
• Committed to following all Firm security protocols and maintaining information security
