Director of Attorney Development
The Director of Attorney Development will work to accelerate practice group and individual lawyer performance and development, aligned with the strategic direction & vision of each PG. This role will collaborate closely with the COO and PG Chairs to align and implement the Firm's strategic plans for attorney development and is designed for someone with a JD that has experience as a practicing lawyer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate as a Talent & Development business professional for the PG Chairs; understand their strategic needs in relation to their people and coordinate with the appropriate individuals to execute.
• Support and coordinate the annual and mid-year performance review processes and work with the PG Chairs to identify and implement solutions and programs for underperforming as well as high-potential talent.
• Provide individual career development coaching and counseling sessions and work with individuals on their development plans and business plans.
• Facilitate the discussion with PG Chairs to support the talent mapping/pipeline process.
• Support and coordinate the matriculation process from Associate to Income Partner.
• Assess and identify group and individual lawyer training needs and address with PG Chairs.
• Facilitate the coordination of the attorney mentoring and advocacy programs.
• Serve as a key liaison to support and facilitate the onboarding and integration of lateral attorneys and be available as a resource.
• Guide the Firm with respect to industry development techniques and programs and factor these concepts into the Firm's overall strategic plans and policies.
• Other projects as identified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s degree focusing on Talent, Professional Development, Organizational Development, Management, or other related areas; JD and experience as a practicing attorney is strongly preferred.
• At least four to five years of experience in Talent/Development management, preferably in a professional services environment.
• Professional coaching certification is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and drive results with a sense of urgency in setting strategies and executing against the objectives.
• Proven ability to influence, interact and consult with senior leaders, strong collaboration skills, and effective stakeholder management.
• Strong coaching, counseling, business acumen, and overall communication skills.
• Knowledge of and involvement in the larger professional development/talent management community a plus.
This role offers flexibility and the ability to work both remotely (2 days) and at our Chicago office (3 days).
