Whittney G. Beard, JD, MCC

As a lawyer, coach and learning and development professional, over the past 20 years Whittney has seen the legal industry from all angles. She cares deeply about lawyers and the legal profession. She is an ICF-credentialed Master Certified Coach (one of just 1,200 in the world to have earned this credential) who works with individuals and teams to up their performance, focusing on leadership, team management, business development strategies, the design of efficient systems and reducing the experience of overwhelm or chaos. Her work is focused on creating accountability and structure while not losing sight of the humanity of each person who makes a law firm thrive. In 2018, Whittney co-designed and continues to co-lead the industry-standard, ICF-accredited Volta Coach Training program for lawyer coaching—when it comes to coaching in law  firms, Whittney literally helped to write the manual.

Whittney began her legal career in 2000 clerking for Chief Judge Jerry Buchmeyer in Federal District Court in the Northern District of Texas. She later practiced corporate law at Milbank. In 2007, Whittney became a professional coach, and has focused her practice on lawyers ever since, both in-house at Orrick, and as an external consultant. 

Whittney received her BA, magna cum laude, from the University of California, San Diego, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received her law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, graduating as a member of the Order of the Coif. She is certified to administer several professional assessments, including the Everything DiSC®, Myers-Briggs (MBTI), and EQ-i 2.0 assessments, as well as The Leadership Circle Profile, a powerful 360 leadership development tool. 

When she is not working, Whittney has her hands full as a single mom to her 9-year old son, and the Labradoodle they adopted during the pandemic.
